Let it Snow, Let it snow, let it rain?

Let it snow, let it snow, let it rain?

This without a doubt has to be one of the weirdest winters I have ever seen in my 54 years. In the Bourbonnais Kankakee Illinois area we are enjoying weather usually reserved for October November or late spring. Temps in the mid forties and plenty of rain, not snow. We have barely received 2 inches so far. White Christmas, Ha! We'll be lucky to see a White Valentines Day.

Home inspections have been great since I am able to climb on the roof and get a good look at the gutters and shingles. Usually this would be impossible with a normal amount of snow cover.

But all this rain is causing some of the same issues that are usually reserved for October November or late spring. Leaking roofs, negative slope gutters, downspouts only inches away from the foundation, and window wells uncovered and drains clogging up and flooding through the window.

6 inches of downspout isn't enough

Basement laundry room is right behind this wall section.

All this water and no downspout to drain into.

Remember the rule, Water always wins.

Basically a useless drain.

This is just plain dumb. The drain is designed to be set at or just below the gravel with a screen cover. Then when it rains and fills the well with water, it goes in the drain, instead of making a fishbowl out of the window well and pouring through the window into the finished basement.

Check your water drainage systems on a regular basis, even when the seasons don't seem to be following the rules.
